A needle gauge chart is a fundamental reference tool used in medical, lab, and industrial settings to map out the physical dimensions and standard color codes of hypodermic needles. Needle sizes follow the Birmingham Wire Gauge (BWG) system, which operates on an inverse relationship: the higher the gauge number, the thinner the needle diameter.

Note: There is a distinct difference between standard hypodermic needles (used for injections) and intravenous (IV) cannulas. While hypodermic needle hubs follow the universal chart below, IV cannulas utilize a different, dedicated color system (e.g., an 18G IV cannula is green, whereas an 18G hypodermic needle hub is pink).
