Fixing Viewer ActiveX Control Errors: A Step-by-Step Guide ActiveX controls are small apps that allow websites to play videos and view specific files. Security blocks, outdated browsers, or corrupted files often cause ActiveX errors. Follow this step-by-step guide to resolve these viewer issues quickly. Step 1: Use Internet Explorer Mode

Modern browsers like Chrome and Edge do not support ActiveX by default. You must use Microsoft Edge in Internet Explorer (IE) Mode. Open Microsoft Edge. Click the three dots (…) in the top right. Select Settings from the menu. Click Default browser on the left sidebar.

Set “Allow sites to be reloaded in Internet Explorer mode” to Allow. Restart Edge.

Click the three dots again and choose Reload in Internet Explorer mode when visiting your website. Step 2: Lower Internet Security Settings

Strict security settings frequently block ActiveX elements from running.

Press the Windows Key + R, type inetcpl.cpl, and press Enter.

Switch to the Security tab in the Internet Properties window. Click on the Trusted Sites zone (the green checkmark). Click the Sites button.

Paste the URL of the website causing the error and click Add. Click Close.

Change the security slider for Trusted Sites to Low or Medium-low. Step 3: Enable ActiveX Controls Manually

If custom security levels are active, you must manually allow ActiveX execution.

In the same Security tab, click on Internet (the globe icon). Click the Custom level… button near the bottom. Scroll down to the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section.

Change “Download signed ActiveX controls” to Prompt or Enable. Change “Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins” to Enable.

Change “Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting” to Enable. Click OK and apply the changes. Step 4: Clear Browser Cache Corrupted temporary files can disrupt web viewers. Open the Internet Properties window again (inetcpl.cpl). Go to the General tab.
